Faced with multi-step skincare routines, you can sometimes feel lost and unsure of which products are right for your skin. So you may wonder whether you really need this product. What about serum?
The essential step
While certain steps are not necessarily mandatory (lotion, essence or localized treatments, for example), the serum is a key element of your routine. Often, it's the formula with the highest concentration of active ingredients in your routine, and the one that enables you to treat a problem over the long term: pigmentation spots, imperfections, dull complexion, dehydration, loss of firmness... These are formulas with higher percentages of active ingredients than other types of product (like creams, for example). However, a serum is not necessarily sufficient on its own: you must apply a moisturizing cream afterwards to provide your skin with the right amount of water and lipids.
How do I use it?
Always apply serum to cleansed skin. If it's in the evening, you apply it after your double cleansing and before your cream; if it's in the morning, you apply it after a spray of thermal spring water in the morning. Serums are usually quite fluid, which is why they should be applied first, as products are always applied from the most "fluid" to the most "dense". This also makes it possible to "seal in" the action of the active ingredients with a cream or oil.
Which serum to choose?
It's important to note that not all serums are suitable for all skin types. So make sure you choose a serum that targets your problem but also matches your skin type. For example, if you have extremely dry skin and choose a serum that targets blemishes and sebum overproduction, you run the risk of unbalancing your skin barrier and even creating blemishes.
