The concept of “Skipcare” explained
With all the advice we hear left and right, it often pushes us to accumulate many skincare products and follow long and complex routines. However, a new trend is emerging: Skipcare, or the art of skipping certain skincare steps. In other words, skinimalism advocates minimalism — even in your toiletry bag — by using a reduced number of products to obtain optimal results.
The current TikTok trend is moving towards shorter routines, aiming to avoid overloading the skin with an excess of active products. But is this really necessary? What are the potential benefits of such an approach for your skin?
Understanding your skin barrier
The skin, the first line of defense against external aggressions, must be protected to maintain its health. When it is damaged, it can no longer properly fulfill its role as a protective barrier and must be repaired by restoring its optimal pH. Over-cleansing can quickly unbalance the skin barrier by removing its natural oils that ensure its protection. Small pimples or abnormal dryness can often indicate a dysfunction of this barrier.
Returning to a simpler skincare routine allows the skin to rest and regenerate. Some products, such as retinol, can be too irritating and should be gradually integrated into the routine: first once a week, then two to three times a week, and finally daily depending on the skin's sensitivity. In short, overloading the skin with highly concentrated active ingredients can sometimes be more harmful than beneficial.
It is therefore important to be consistent with your routine and not change it every 2 days. Already because the effects cannot be seen over such short periods of time but also because it can sensitize the skin. If something works for you: do not stop everything because you would have seen a new ingredient appear. Wait until you finish the 1st cycle that you started or introduce this new active ingredient little by little.
Should we really take a break from care?
Well, no, not really... If you have found a routine that works for you: don't change it and above all, be consistent! This will bring you results in the long term. If, on the other hand, your skin is irritated, red, pimples appear, or sensitive to the least products, then you really need to get back to basics. This is either a sign that you have overworked your skin; too many exfoliating acids for example mixed with other powerful active ingredients (retinol, vitamin C, etc.) or because it is too sensitized by external aggressions (chlorine, pollution, salt, etc.). In this case, skipcare may be of interest to you! All you need to do is go back to an extremely basic routine by trying the products by elimination until your skin gets back to how it was before. Even more so in summer, when you are faced with UV rays, chlorine, salt, etc.How to integrate skipcare into your routine?
To maintain a simple and effective routine, all you need is a cleanser, a serum, a moisturizer and, if necessary, an SPF.
Start with a gentle cleansing gel. We recommend our Calendula-enriched Cleansing Jelly , which deeply cleanses the skin without damaging the skin barrier.
Next, apply a serum tailored to your specific needs. A serum with a higher concentration of active ingredients will help your skin hydrate, regenerate, and treat spots or imperfections. Choose concentrated formulas with gentle but effective active ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid , niacinamide , or bakuchiol.
Hydration is an essential step in your skincare routine. Like your body, your skin needs lipids and water to function properly. Opt, especially in summer, for a light moisturizer containing good active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides or probiotics, which will help regulate your skin's pH and strengthen your skin barrier.
We recommend our fluid moisturizing cream , formulated with 97% ingredients of natural origin. Enriched with acerola, a super antioxidant fruit, and provitamin B5, this cream combines active ingredients known for their moisturizing and plumping properties. It helps reduce water loss from the skin and reveal the radiance of dull skin.
Finally, finish by applying an SPF 50+. In summer, it is crucial to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays to limit the risk of cancer and slow down skin aging.
