Should you wash your face in the morning?
For years, we have been told that it is necessary to wash our face morning and evening to have healthy skin. However, a new trend suggests that washing your face in the morning may not be necessary.
Why is it not necessary to wash your face in the morning?
The skin needs its sebum: The skin naturally produces sebum, an oily film which protects it from external aggressions and nourishes it. Washing your face in the morning will remove damage to the skin's hydro-lipid film and can leave it dry and irritated. Furthermore, dry and damaged skin will produce more sebum to defend itself against external attacks, so people with combination to oily skin are advised to only clean their face in the evening using a gentle double cleanse which will remove the skin of all impurities without damaging its hydro-lipid film.
Excessive cleansing can damage the skin: Washing your face too often or with astringent products can damage the skin and cause irritation, redness and itching. By reducing how often you wash your face, you can help protect your skin from rebalancing.
Exfoliation is more effective in the evening: If you use exfoliating products for your skin, you can use them in the evening rather than in the morning. During the night, the skin regenerates and repairs itself, which can make exfoliation more effective at that time. This can help remove dead skin cells and improve the texture and radiance of your skin.
Listen to your skin: Everyone has different skin and everyone's needs may vary. Listen to your skin and adjust your skincare routine accordingly. If you find that you need to wash your face in the morning to feel good, keep doing it. If you notice that your skin is drier or more irritated after washing in the morning, try reducing the frequency of washing.
