NAD+ : la molécule de la longévité et du renouvellement cellulaire

NAD+: The Molecule of Longevity and Cellular Renewal

In the world of health, wellness, and now cosmetics, an acronym is appearing more and more frequently: NAD+. Presented as a key molecule for slowing down aging, boosting cellular energy, and improving DNA repair, it is now at the heart of longevity research. But what is NAD+, why is there so much talk about it, and how does it affect the skin and body? Let's take a closer look.

What is NAD+?
NAD+, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, is a coenzyme naturally present in all our cells. It plays a central role in two major functions:
  • Cellular energy production,
  • And DNA repair, notably by activating the famous longevity enzymes: sirtuins.
In other words, without NAD+, our bodies can neither produce the energy needed to function nor maintain good cellular balance.

Why is NAD+ linked to aging?
With age, NAD+ levels in the body gradually decrease, leading to:
  • A drop in energy (chronic fatigue),
  • A decrease in cellular repair capabilities,
  • An acceleration of skin and metabolic aging.
According to several studies, this drop in NAD+ is one of the major factors in aging. Restoring its level would therefore make it possible to slow down the effects of aging, both on the skin and on internal organs.

What are the benefits of NAD+ for the skin?
In cosmetics, NAD+ (or its precursors like NMN or nicotinamide riboside) is beginning to be incorporated into highly technical formulas, particularly in anti-aging skincare. Its benefits:
  • Stimulation of cellular renewal,
  • Reduction of skin inflammation,
  • Improvement of firmness and elasticity,
  • Restoration of radiance,
  • And better functioning of skin stem cells.
It is a promising active ingredient in new generations of regenerating skincare, particularly in connection with biomimetic cosmetics and nutricosmetics.

NAD+ in food supplements: promise or trend?
Beyond topical treatments, NAD+ is also widely discussed in the form of oral supplements (often based on NMN or NR). These supplements aim to increase NAD+ levels throughout the body to:
  • Boost energy,
  • Improve concentration,
  • Protect the brain,
  • And promote better recovery after exercise.
The future of NAD+ in beauty
Research on NAD+ is still in its early stages, but promising. Many high-end cosmetic brands (especially Korean, Japanese, and American) are already incorporating this coenzyme into their regenerating skincare. One thing is certain: NAD+ embodies a new approach to anti-aging, more cellular, more preventive, and more connected to our deep biological functioning. In summary
NAD+ is much more than a trendy ingredient: it is a key molecule in our cellular balance, whose potential in terms of longevity and skin health is now being seriously explored. While its integration into beauty and wellness routines is only just beginning, it could well mark a new era in future cosmetics.
