Comment réparer la peau après une exposition au soleil ?

How to repair the skin after sun exposure?

The skin is often exposed to aggressions such as the sun, chlorine and sea water during the summer season, which can lead to dryness and the appearance of imperfections. In this article, we offer you our best tips for taking care of your skin after summer.

The condition of the skin after summer

After summer, the skin becomes more fragile, it dries out and dehydrates due to repeated exposure to the sun and swimming. These activities weaken the protective layer of the skin, called the stratum corneum, which leads to an increase in transient water loss (TEWL) and makes the skin more vulnerable to external aggressions.

In addition, UV rays induce hyperkeratinization of the skin, leading to thickening of the epidermis. This phenomenon causes the skin pores to be blocked by sebum, thus promoting the growth of the bacteria Cutibacterium acnes, responsible for acne .

These skin imperfections can therefore appear, hence the phenomenon known as the “rebound effect”. Explained by the thickening of the epidermis which obstructs the pores of the skin. When pores are clogged, the skin's natural secretions, such as sebum, have difficulty draining properly. This blockage creates an environment conducive to the proliferation of bacteria responsible for acne. Therefore, instead of seeing an improvement in the condition of the skin, we see an exacerbation of skin problems.

And what about sunburn?

A sunburn is essentially an inflammatory reaction of the skin caused by UVB radiation, which has low penetration into the dermis.

It generally results in redness, a burning sensation, itching and then the formation possible blisters, known as actinic erythema . These symptoms usually occur between 8 and 24 hours after sun exposure. Sunburns can be classified into several levels of severity, influencing how long they take to heal.

It is important to note that sunburn increases the risk of premature aging of the skin and the development of skin cancers, including melanoma, due to the genotoxic nature of UVA and UVB radiation, which can damage the genome. To relieve the pain caused by a sunburn, there are several actions you can take.

What to do in case of sunburn?

First, it is essential to cool the burn to relieve pain and prevent it from getting worse. If you don't have a fever or chills, take a cool shower or bath for 15 minutes. For a small area, applying moist compresses for 15 to 30 minutes may also be beneficial.

Then, apply a moisturizing cream or gel to protect the skin and promote regeneration. We recommend using our rehydrating mask, using our rehydrating mask , with proven effectiveness thanks to the presence in its formula of a super molecule, hyaluronic acid, in two molecular weights (high and low), to retain water in the cells and boost collagen production .

Avoid prolonged and repeated exposure to the sun during the healing period. Apply sunscreen suitable for your skin type daily, even on cloudy days.

Protect the affected area by wearing covering clothing.

Make sure you rehydrate well by drinking plenty of water, which is crucial to promote rapid healing. It is recommended to drink at least 2 liters of water per day.

The skin must regenerate naturally. Avoid popping blisters (risk of infection) and scratching peeling skin, as this can delay the healing process.

And what are the right actions to adopt to take care of your skin after summer?

Clean your skin.

As mentioned above, after summer, pores tend to be clogged, which encourages the formation of imperfections. Therefore, daily cleansing is an essential step in order to clean the pores in depth. However, cleansing must be gentle so as not to attack the skin which is already weakened.

In the evening, we recommend double cleansing . First, the oil phase to remove makeup, sunscreen and excess sebum which are lipophilic.

Our makeup remover oil is enriched with calendula, it cleanses while soothing the skin for supple and comfortable skin. Its texture, transforming into oil then into milk, is respectful of the skin.

Secondly, cleanse your skin with an aqueous phase. As the skin is cleansed, the cleanser will be able to wash it thoroughly. For example, choose our cleansing jelly , enriched with calendula flower extract to soothe and purify the skin.

Finally, to fight against hyperkeratinization of the skin, promote exfoliation. For this, you can opt for our new skin mask , its formula with fruit enzymes, vegetable oils rich in carotenoids and the Bright Oleoactif complex, will gently exfoliate the skin to boost cell renewal and reveal a brighter complexion, rebalancing the skin microbiota.

Hydrate and nourish your skin.

UV rays from the sun and swimming contribute to weakening the stratum corneum of the epidermis, thus leading to drying and dehydration of the skin. To compensate for this dehydration, it is essential to provide the skin with hydrating ingredients .

To boost your skin's hydration, we recommend applying our anti-thirst serum morning and evening. Formulated with 99% ingredients of natural origin, it is enriched with acacia seed extract. This active ingredient helps smooth, firm and maintain the skin's proper level of hydration.

To seal in this hydration, it is necessary to nourish your skin in order to strengthen its skin barrier and prevent transepidermal evaporation of water. For this, we recommend our fluid cream , it is enriched with acerola, an antioxidant super fruit and provitamin B5. This duo of expert active ingredients are recognized for their hydrating and plumping properties, to reduce water loss from the skin and also to reveal the radiance of dull skin.

And to boost and protect your skin, we advise you to apply our Tan Boost serum-in-oil daily, composed of Thalitan and Karanja, two key ingredients to boost the skin during sun exposure. It prevents skin aging linked to the harmful effects of UV rays.

Protect your skin.

Even after the summer holidays, it is crucial to maintain protection against UV rays all year round, regardless of weather conditions. Regular sun protection is essential to prevent photoaging (wrinkles, brown spots, sagging skin) and reduce the risk of skin cancer. Opt for broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection.
