Who says change of season, says change of active ingredients! And while in winter we can use many active ingredients, in summer there are certain active ingredients that are better used sparingly.
Which assets should you focus on in summer?
The skin in summer is very often weakened due to external factors; the sun, salt, chlorine, heat, perspiration, etc. In response to these attacks, the skin thickens to protect itself and new problems can appear such as microcysts, fine lines due to dehydration, inflammation due to exposure for example. This is why it is important to use suitable active ingredients, which will repair the skin and soothe it rather than inflame it even more.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of active ingredients to have in your routine this summer:
Antioxidant active ingredients
Vitamin C : Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps brighten the skin by reducing pigment spots. It also stimulates the production of collagen, which contributes to brighter and more even skin. It also protects the skin from skin aging; perfect with the sun in summer which accentuates this process. However, be careful; if you are not used to using it, this may not be the best time to start or choose a % that is not too high (5% for example). If you want to start incorporating it into your routine, we recommend our Vitamin C booster ; a few drops to put in your cream in the morning or evening.
Vitamin E : Known for its antioxidant properties, vitamin E protects the skin from free radical damage while providing deep hydration. It improves the texture and elasticity of the skin, making it soft and supple. By incorporating vitamin E into your skincare, you also strengthen your skin barrier.
Moisturizing active ingredients
Hyaluronic acid: it is ideal in summer thanks to its ability to retain water in the skin. Indeed, during this period, our skin can easily become dehydrated due to heat and exposure to the sun. Hyaluronic acid helps maintain skin hydration by attracting and retaining water, which gives the skin a plump and refreshed appearance. In addition, it is light and non-greasy, perfect for high temperatures and to avoid a feeling of heaviness on the skin. You can find it in masks or serums for example. It is perfect as a post-sun treatment to deeply hydrate the skin.
Aloe vera: it's a summer must-have thanks to its soothing and moisturizing properties. In case of sunburn or irritation due to sun exposure, aloe vera offers immediate relief and promotes skin healing. In addition, its light and refreshing texture is perfect for calming the skin after a hot day. Rich in vitamins and minerals, aloe vera nourishes the skin while providing deep hydration without a greasy feeling, ideal for summer days. You can find it in our moisturizing mask ; it's a hyaluronic acid and aloe vera combo to relieve heated skin. The plus? You can put it in the fridge for an ultra-pleasant ice cube effect as an after-sun treatment.
Brown Algae Extract & Trace Elements: Brown algae extracts and trace elements are renowned for their remineralizing and revitalizing properties. They deeply hydrate the skin, providing it with the essential minerals it needs to stay healthy and radiant. Incorporating these ingredients into your routine helps keep skin hydrated, firm and revitalized.
Tanning booster assets
Marine Oligosaccharides: Marine oligosaccharides, composed of magnesium and manganese, mimic the action of endothelin, a hormone naturally released by skin exposed to the sun. They stimulate tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for the production of melanin, thus promoting the creation of pigment without UV exposure.
Acetyl tyrosine: This active ingredient promotes the synthesis of melanin, thus contributing to a faster tan.
Chasteberry: By binding to opioid receptors on melanocytes, chasteberry also stimulates melanin production, even in the absence of sun exposure.
Annatto or Roucou: Annatto, rich in minerals and beta-carotene, moisturizes, repairs and protects the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays (note that this is not in the sense of sun protection but rather in the sense of protecting the degradation of cells caused by the sun). By stimulating the production of melanin, it offers a tanned complexion while providing an instant healthy glow thanks to its orange color.
Carrot Oil: This oil, rich in minerals and vitamin A (beta-carotene), prepares the skin for the sun, promotes the production of melanin and prolongs the tan, while providing an immediate healthy glow. In addition, its antioxidant properties protect the skin against free radicals.
Peptides: Present in tanning activator treatments, these peptides, like acetylhexapeptide, boost melanin synthesis.
Self-tanning ingredients: Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and erythrulose are molecules used in self-tanners. They react with the amino acids in the skin to create a tan without sun exposure. Erythrulose works more slowly than DHA and has moisturizing properties.
It is by sourcing these active ingredients that we created our Tan Boost Oil : a 100% clean sun preparation product that gives a healthy glow, with or without exposure.
When to use these assets?
Focus on antioxidant active ingredients in the morning to protect your skin from free radicals and premature skin aging. For the rest, it's whenever you want in your routine, depending on the textures you like! In summer, our recommendation is to lighten your routine, no need to overload your skin.
Our recommendation? A treatment with our Tan Boost Oil . This triple action formula is inspired by the most powerful food supplements available on the market to prepare, activate and prolong your tan in just 7 days.
Rich in antioxidants such as Karanja, which prepares the skin for the sun and prevents skin aging caused by UV rays, as well as Thalitan, which stimulates melanin synthesis to accelerate and prolong tanning. The formula also includes Melanobronze and oils rich in beta-carotene for an even and natural tan that lasts over time. Of course, it is crucial to combine it with adequate sun protection, as it does not provide protection against UV rays.
