No-List: Why don't we use mineral oils?

At Seasonly, we pay particular attention to the active ingredients selected by our laboratory for the formulation of our products; all must be vegan, more than 95% natural and we are careful not to use any controversial ingredients, which is why mineral oils are part of our no-list .

Indeed, although they are used in many cosmetic products and appreciated for their ability to moisturize the skin and provide an immediate smoothing effect, they also have their drawbacks.

What are mineral oils?

Mineral oils are derived from crude oil. They are made up of a mixture of so-called “saturated” compounds and are generally in liquid form at room temperature. Among the common names for these oils, the most common are liquid paraffin or vaselinum liquidum. Appreciated for their ability to hydrate by retaining water and to smooth the skin's texture, these oils are nevertheless harmful to our skin.

Why is the use of mineral oils controversial?

For their occlusive effect: One of the main concerns related to the use of mineral oils on the face is their occlusive effect. In fact, these oils form a thick layer on the surface of the skin which will clog the pores and prevent it from breathing. Blocking pores in this way increases the risk of acne and breakouts, and it also prevents the skin from expelling toxins naturally. The use of mineral oils is therefore not recommended, especially for sensitive skin or skin prone to imperfections.

For the absence of nutrients: Unlike vegetable oils or other natural oils which are increasingly used in cosmetics, mineral oils do not provide any nutritional benefit to the skin. They do not contain vitamins, antioxidants or essential fatty acids which are essential for healthy skin. We therefore recommend using natural oils on your face so that your skin can benefit from their many benefits.

For their effect on the environment: At Seasonly, we are committed to offering clean beauty for the skin but also for the planet. This process of producing mineral oils is closely linked to the oil industry, which has an impact considerable impact on the environment.

Although mineral oils can be effective in providing temporary protection and hydration, it is important to consider the adverse effects they may cause. If you're looking for healthier alternatives that are kinder to the skin and the environment, there are many natural oils that help seal in moisture while providing the skin with essential nutrients.
