A few months ago, we explained to you the difference between AHAs and BHAs , these active ingredients with sometimes difficult to understand acronyms which have invaded our bathroom, but do you know why AHAs are good for the skin and in which cases? Is it advisable to use them?
What are AHAs?
We call AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids), the acids extracted from lemon (citric acid), milk (lactic acid), bitter almond (mandelic acid), sugar cane (glycolic acid) or even apple. (malic acid).
These acids, if used correctly in a facial lotion, a mask or even a moisturizer, will help the skin to gently get rid of dead cells. AHAs are exfoliants and represent an excellent alternative to grainy scrubs, which are often too aggressive for the skin.
When should you use products containing AHAs?
Everyone can use products containing AHAs but the frequency of use will depend on the sensitivity of the skin and the acid concentration of the chosen product. We recommend using an exfoliating mask with AHAs every week to rid the skin of dead cells and refine the skin's texture.
If you have suffered from acne or if you have small spots or scars on your face, then daily use of a lotion or serum with AHAs will allow you to even out your complexion and fight against hyperpigmentation .
