Winter, along with summer, is one of the two seasons when our skin is put to the test the most. The air is drying out, the amount of sunshine is decreasing and pollution in big cities is exploding. So how does your skin react to these climatic changes? What should you change in your routine to keep your skin hydrated and your complexion glowing? We will explain everything to you !
How does our skin change in winter?
Due to low temperatures , the skin reduces its sebum production: dryness of the skin is therefore a major consequence of winter, resulting in a loss of elasticity .
Then the body concentrates blood around vital organs to protect them from the cold. Skin microcirculation then decreases : cell renewal slows down, lymphatic flow decreases and evacuates toxins more slowly. It is therefore the turn of the dull complexion to appear. Which is made worse by pollution peaks during winter!
In addition, temperature changes between indoors and outdoors, and freezing wind weaken the skin barrier . The skin then becomes more sensitive , is more easily irritated and redness appears . And when snow and ice are present on the ground, UV rays are reflected: sun protection is then essential.
Finally, it is mainly our habits that change: for example, our body becomes dehydrated more easily due to our unfortunate tendency to take showers that are too hot in winter.
Concretely, what does our skin need?
We must therefore help the skin on several issues: skin dryness, elasticity, cell renewal, dull complexion and the skin barrier.
If the skin is dry , it is because it is not producing enough sebum. So logically, we must provide it with the lipids it lacks. Two solutions therefore:
- Either choose a thicker moisturizing cream , and therefore richer in lipids.
- Either add a few drops of vegetable oil to your day or night cream. Our night oil is a mix of 14 vegetable oils, all rich in essential fatty acids, minerals and vitamins!
(or even better, both!)
The best part is that providing lipids to the skin also restores elasticity, suppleness and softness.
To accelerate cell renewal , we turn to bakuchiol: a plant-based alternative to retinol, bakuchiol shortens the cell cycle time and offers anti-aging, anti-dark spots and anti-scarring actions. This is why we find it in our anti-aging booster !
To help the face regain its radiance, we turn to vitamin C or niacinamide. Our radiance booster, healthy glow cream or purifying lotion are all good options for radiance. A second way to ward off dull complexion is to exfoliate the stratum corneum of the skin: AHA and fruit enzymes are combined in our peeling mask to gently dissolve dead cells.
Finally, to support the proper functioning of the skin barrier, niacinamide or vitamin B5 are perfect! You can find them in our rich cream , or our healthy glow cream .
Our advices ?
In the evening, apply a layer of your day cream. Then apply another thicker moisturizer or a dropper of night oil . By multiplying the layers of moisturizing products and lipids, we seal in hydration throughout the night.
Don't hesitate to use a heavier hand on areas that dry out more easily, such as the sides of the nose or the nasolabial folds.
Drink 1.5 liters of water per day, and you don't need more!
